In the first week of a month-long diaper drive, Bath Savings Institution collected the equivalent of over 5,800 diapers – more than twice the goal of 2,600 diapers for the entire month!
“This is an incredible show of support from Bath Savings customers and employees,” said Nancy Jennings, chair of United Way of Mid Coast Maine’s board and volunteer leader of its Diaper Project. “The company also is providing a generous match of 25 cents per diaper up to $1,000 – which has already been met in the first week! On behalf of babies and their parents, United Way thanks you all.”
“Bath Savings is happy to be holding a diaper drive to benefit the United Way and the families in our communities.” said Glenn Hutchinson, president of Bath Savings Institution. “A clean diaper is essential to a baby’s health and well-being. For some parents, or caregivers, the cost of an adequate supply of diapers is simply more than they are able to afford. Our goal with this drive is to provide help to these families in need. No baby should be without a supply of clean diapers.”
The diaper drive is being organized by employees Jenny Little and Tina Magno.
The first batch of diapers has been collected from the Bath branch and students from Morse High School repackaged them distribution to food banks, home visitor programs, WIC, and other agencies serving children and families in need.
The diaper drive is continuing at all Bath Savings locations until Saturday, June 30. Anyone wishing to donate diapers or dollars is welcome to stop by. Donations can also be made online at uwmcm.org/diapers.
Last year, United Way of Mid Coast Maine’s Diaper Project distributed over 71,000 diapers and is on track to distribute 82,000 this year. United Way’s mission is “to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.”
