The CLC YMCA Child Care, located at 8 Sand Hill Road in Nobleboro, was recently recognized at the silver level for the 2016-2017 program year for the 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go! initiative. The program is a nationally recognized childhood obesity-prevention program implemented throughout Maine. 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go! was developed as the foundation for change, promoting five or more fruits and vegetables, two hours or less recreational screen time, one hour or more of physical activity, and zero sugary drinks, and more water, each day.
Sites are recognized at the bronze level when they have implemented 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go!’s five priority strategies that support healthy eating and active living. At the silver level, sites also have communicated their efforts with families, and at the gold level, sites also have strong policies to support and sustain the strategies being implemented.
In partnership with LincolnHealth and the 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go! program, CLC YMCA Child Care’s goal is to follow the guiding principles of 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go!, whereby children enrolled in the Y’s child-care program are provided a a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack each day.
“All staff here at the Y’s Child Care are thrilled to have be recognized as a silver-level participant,” said Sally Romero, the Y’s child-care director, “and we will continue to promote healthy eating and activity for all our children and their families.”
