Colby & Gale Inc.’s recent benefit raffle of a season’s worth of fuel oil or propane raised more than $10,000 for the Boothbay Fire Department.
The fuel oil company, with locations in Damariscotta and Boothbay, held the raffle in conjunction with its Sept. 11 open house as well as its hosting of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce for Business After Hours.
The new location, at 3 Industrial Park in Boothbay, was a natural growth of the business, which saw an increase in customers in the Boothbay region over the past few years, according to Colby & Gale Inc. CEO Matt Poole.
“Our backbone is providing quality customer service,” Poole said. “It didn’t happen overnight, but over the past five years there’s been a steady growth of customers in this region, and this was a way we could better take care of those customers while providing support for our staff.”
While planning the open house for the new location, Poole said the company decided to add a fundraiser to benefit a local organization. With the open house and Business After Hours event falling on 9/11, the Boothbay Fire Department was selected as the beneficiary.
“On a day when we remember and honor those responders, supporting (the Boothbay Fire Department) was the right choice,” Poole said.
Beginning in August, tickets were available for $10 each or six for $50 at Colby & Gale’s Boothbay and Damariscotta offices; Main Street Grocery, of Damariscotta; the Boothbay town office; and through the Boothbay Fire Department. Colby & Gale offered to match up to $5,000 of the proceeds from the raffle.
The sale of raffle tickets raised $5,180. Colby & Gale provided a $5,000 match, bringing the total to $10,180. Dawn Gilbert, of Boothbay, was the lucky winner.
