Damariscotta Hardware will give a $20 gift card to everyone who adopts one of the 24 shelter pets on the sponsorship page in this edition.
The store hopes the offer will help the shelter find homes for the pets and help the pets’ new families buy everything they need, like bowls, collars, and leashes.
The store has long supported the shelter, according to co-owners and siblings Rob Gardiner and Susan Geyer.
Damariscotta Hardware holds raffles at its annual Christmas party and gives the proceeds, plus a 100 percent match from the store, to the shelter. The store has a collection can at the register where customers can donate their spare change to the shelter.
When the store holds its popular Ladies Day event, the shelter brings a couple of pets, and they usually go home with a customer the same day. When pet food passes its sell-by date but is still good, the store gives it to the shelter.
The store’s owners and employees also support the shelter in their personal lives. “We’ve all adopted animals from there,” Geyer said.
“We are so thrilled to have Damariscotta Hardware’s generous help finding homes for our pets,” said Jane Siviski, marketing manager at the Coastal Humane Society, the shelter’s parent organization.
“Some of them have been with us for some time, so we hope that their generous offer will make people look twice at these adorable animals in need of homes, and consider giving them a home and family,” Siviski said. “We thank them for giving a paw up to our dogs, cats, and small animals!”
The shelter will notify Damariscotta Hardware when someone adopts one of the animals, and the pet owner or owners will be able to pick up the gift card at the store.
