Jefferson Scoop owner Joe Holland will hold a fundraiser for the Jefferson Fire Department on Saturday, June 23. “All proceeds will be donated to the fire department,” Holland said. The event will be held from noon to closing time at 9 p.m. at the Route 32 ice cream stand.
Jefferson Fire will have fire trucks on hand and will be conducting fire safety demonstrations. The fire department will also raffle off smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
Newcastle Fire is loaning Jefferson its fire-extinguisher training equipment, and anyone who wishes to can learn how to properly use one. The fire department will also hand out fire safety information.
Jefferson Fire and Rescue has one of the lowest budgets in the county and are “the second largest team in the county,” Holland said.
“We are 100 percent volunteer,” Fire Chief Walter Morris said.
