The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta will open in its new waterfront location at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The new place is at 17 Backstreet Landing, behind Elm Street Plaza.
“We’re excited to welcome customers into our spacious new shop,” said Rosie Bensen, co-manager of the shop. “We have a lot more room to display books, and we enjoy beautiful views of the river. It’s a cozy, comfortable, and inviting place.”
During January, when volunteers were moving the contents of the shop, they were not able to accept donations. Now, donated books may be left at the Backstreet Landing shop whenever a volunteer is there to receive them. Books should not be left outside, to avoid weather damage.
The shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Saturday, except Thursdays, when it will stay open until 7 p.m.
The book shop is a major source of income for Skidompha Public Library. All items are donated, all staff members are volunteers, and all proceeds go to the library.
