Damariscotta retail women’s clothing store Women of Substance has been rounding down sales to support a local community organization. During the Round Down event, customers who pay 100 percent of their purchase in cash will be forgiven the change portion of their final tally, which will then be donated by Women of Substance to New Hope for Women.
“It’s an easy way for ‘matrons’ to support an important local charity,” said Lynne Urquhart, owner of Women of Substance. “Many individuals will even add an extra dollar to their order once they realize the mission of New Hope for Women.”
New Hope for Women offers support to people in Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, and Waldo counties affected by domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. It also provides important educational resources to assist local communities in creating a safer and healthier future.
After testing this program for a year, Women of Substance is pleased to continue this program going forward. It is Urquhart’s hope that the concept of “rounding down” will increase in popularity as others realize how simple and easy it is. “We all need to do our part to support such important local organizations,” said Urquhart.
