Residents Report ‘Earthquake’
A number of Lincoln County residents reported that they felt an earthquake at approximately 8 p.m. on Tues., March 12, but those reports were not confirmed by official sources. Residents in Waldoboro, Damariscotta Mills, Boothbay Harbor and East Boothbay reported a “very subtle rumbling” or a “a loud bang” or “a sound like thunder”. Those reports were received via The Lincoln County News Facebook page.

Fire at Washburn and Doughty Quickly Controlled
Fire departments from four Lincoln County towns have cleared the scene of a fire at the Washburn & Doughty shipyard in East Boothbay. A fire that started in the ventilation system at approximately 5:30 p.m. was controlled in about 45 minutes, according to Boothbay Fire Chief Richard Spofford. Damage from the flames was restricted to the area around the ventilation system, and was not considered major, according to Spofford. No injuries were reported.
Congenial Town Meeting Convenes In Southport
Convening in the Town Office March 4, Southport’s annual town meeting demonstrated its usual good cheer, while dispatching a 66-article warrant in just under three hours.
Voters approved every budget item as proposed, granting themselves, as Selectman Gerry Gamage suggested at the start of the meeting, a slight tax cut.
