We were surprised to learn the case against Philip Cohen wrapped up earlier this month in Cumberland County. Cohen, a prominent attorney from Waldoboro, was arrested last fall for an alleged domestic violence assault.

Two weeks ago, the last time we revisited a subject in this space, we were a little flippant, for which we apologize. On the topic of people leaving dogs and kids in cars during summer, we said it was a stupid thing to do and advised against the practice of making stupid decisions.

My great grandson and I were in a terrible car accident last week on Main Street in Wiscasset. I lost my brakes coming down over the hill and ran into another vehicle. It was such a terrifying experience.

I would like to express my opinion about the soldier who was recently rescued from his captors in Iraq. First, I am concerned about swapping five terrorists for this soldier who may have put down his weapon and deserted his post. Some of his buddies were actually killed in an attempt to rescue him.

I was disturbed to read in The Lincoln County News the details of the Wiscasset Airport Master Plan under consideration by the Wiscasset’s Board of Selectmen.

Because life goes the way it goes, we are fast running out of World War II veterans.

As a Maine land owner and long time resident, I’ve asked Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap to change the wording of the ballot question for the “fair bear hunting referendum.” Any wording that makes it sound as though the law would ban bear hunting is misleading and does not accurately represent what the people have asked for with their signatures.

This is a plea, now that local and primary elections have been held, for all candidates for office in the November elections to put away their campaign signs for the summer. After a while, especially after the signs multiply as the voting day nears, these signs become obnoxious.

The letters to the editor concerning the Lincoln County Animal Shelter written by several individuals have been troubling. The public attacks directed at the shelter organization, and at the director in particular, really should stop.

Well, “they” say you are never ready to have children. The “they” talking in this case are usually parents themselves, passing on a bit of hard-earned wisdom to someone whose life is about to dramatically change.

On behalf of all involved in the Waldoboro Food Pantry, a big thank you for the donations we received from churches, community organizations, businesses, and individuals to help us reach the challenge offered by Good Shepherd Food Bank. Thanks to the generous support, we not only met, but exceeded, the $700 we needed to raise.

In response to articles and editorials in our local papers as of May 29, as one who spent many a baffling hour serving on the Wiscasset/Edgecomb Bypass Task Force, I cannot feel sympathetic to the business owners within the Historic Village area of the town of Wiscasset. A traffic light at the State Route 27 North intersection is by far the simplest, if not least expensive, way to keep traffic flow smooth through the town.

A huge thank you is due to a generous woman who paid for a battery for my watch at Radio Shack. I had gone to John at Stars and he referred me to Radio Shack where the clerk could not undo the tiny screws. Back to John before he closed. He did get them out and kept them while back to Radio Shack I galloped.
