The Lincoln County Animal Shelter thanks all of you, who made the full-page insert in the News of LCAS adoptable animals possible. The leg work that it took to gather all the sponsors was a real labor of love. It means much to the shelter to have this page to tack on our bulletin board, and to share copies with the community to display.

Last week, the Bangor Daily News’ decision to ask for the list of all registered gun owners in the state, and the resulting firestorm it kicked off spawned a lengthy and heated discussion here in our newsroom of the intricate issues involved.

What a good idea the state of Maine has come with this time. Now the state has decided to make a lottery for the elver/eeling fishers. Which one will be next?

I decided to come up to my house at Pemaquid Beach to ride out Nemo because the first forecasts were for less snow than Boston. Boy, am I glad I did. Apart from the adventure of the howling storm and the snow piling up and up – I was grateful that the electricity held.

Who doesn’t want a tax cut? Who doesn’t want more money in their pocket? Who wants to pay more than they absolutely have to for anything and/or why should they? That’s bad business.

If you were feeling snarky, and had web access this week, with little effort you could have surfed onto any one of a dozen different blog entries and essays sniping about how 2013 won’t be a Happy New Year after all.

If the Maine Municipal Association’s early information is right, and the state actually attempts to appropriate the excise tax municipalities typically rely on as a source of revenue, we are going to join with every other community commentator, town official and taxpayer howling in protest.

In response to Sen. Johnson’s and Rep. Devin’s letters to the editor on Jan. 24, please know that all military and civic service are applauded by all citizens. An appalling thing, however, is the ideology set forth by Democrats in the legislature both here in Maine and in Washington.

The confetti was still falling after the presidential election results in November when national media started turning its attention to 2016. Since then, we have heard the incessant drumbeat grow louder with one yet-to-declare politician after another being held up to the light.

We thought we were done kicking Gov. Paul LePage’s tires for a little while after last week when we considered his reelection chances in light of a hypothetical race with former Gov. John Baldacci.

The people of Waldoboro have been amazing once again this year in their generous donations this holiday season. It’s been a rough year for everyone economically, but the people of Waldoboro have proven to be amazingly generous and thoughtful.
