Lillian Dolloff had never heard of Waldoboro until she worked one summer at the Hotel Pemaquid. Three years later, she was living here. She and her husband, Ronald Dolloff, had just completed their studies, he from Bates, and she from business college. They were newly married and they had faith. He got the job he wanted, teaching math at Waldoboro High School.

 When Europeans first arrived in what is now Maine, they found the country already inhabited. The natives of Lincoln County were known as the Wabanaki, a word literally meaning “Fearless Ones” or “The Dawn People.” They had settled near the coast and were the first people to see the sun rise. They were also known as the Pemaquids.

Primavera in Italian means springtime and as designation for a recipe, means more colorful springtime fare for the table. The crabapple outside our kitchen window has burst into a pink cloud of blossoms, affirming that it is time to look for recipes that embody a seasonal change in the menu.

Recently at the Healthy Lincoln County office, the team learned about an incredible farm in Waldoboro that not only accepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Electronic Benefits Transfer benefits, but also has a senior farmshare program. I immediately wanted to learn more about the work that they were doing!
