University of Southern Maine freshman basketball player Gabe Lash was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week on Feb. 23 and was named the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches & Writers Association Rookie of the Week on Feb. 24. Lash followed up his award winning week with another strong game for the Huskies in a Little East Conference quarterfinal playoff game on Wednesday, Feb. 25 in Gorham. He tallied a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in the No. 4 seed Huskies’ 93-83 loss to the No. 5 seed Eastern Connecticut (17-9).

Longtime Medomak Valley boys basketball coach Nick DePatsy will be inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame this summer. In his 35-year coaching career, he has amassed 448 wins.

Lincoln Academy junior Karen Higgins placed second in a pair of events at the Class B state indoor track and field championship meet on Monday, Feb. 16 at Bates College in Lewiston. Higgins’s runner-up finishes earned 14 of the 16 points recorded by the Lady Eagles to boost the squad to 12th place out of the 28 teams that recorded a score during the girls meet.

The Lincoln Academy boys team won the KVAC Class B indoor track and field championship on Friday, Feb. 6 at Bowdoin College in Brunswick. The team won the championship despite not having a team member win an individual event.
