The Lincoln Academy boys cross-country team proved they will be tough to beat this fall at the Medomak 2-Miler on Aug. 17. The Eagles placed five scoring runners in the top nine out of a field of 59 runners. Although no official team score was kept, Lincoln Academy scored a 20, to beat out Camden 47 and Waterville 49.
Low Turnout, Safety Concerns Prompt Boothbay Football Program to Drop to Club Status
Practice resumed Monday, Aug. 22 for the Boothbay Region High School football team, a proud program with five state championships to its credit and a regional crown just nine years ago.
Flint Queen of the Crates
Nine-year-old Scarlett Flint is a three-time queen of the crates at the Rockland Lobster Festival lobster crate races. Flint, who will be a third-grader at Union Elementary School this fall, is the daughter of Sarah (Norwood) and Jeremy Flint, the granddaughter for Laurie and David Norwood, of South Bristol, and the great-granddaughter of Katherine Norwood, of South Bristol.
Low Numbers for Jefferson 5K
Less than 10 people came out to support Troop 216 Boy Scouts in their annual Jefferson 5K fundraiser. Five runners and four walkers participated in what used to be the troop’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds from the race help purchase Scout badges and help Scouts go on outdoor and camping outings.
Eagles Have Large Turnout for Cross-Country, Return Top Veterans
The Lincoln Academy cross-country teams swelled to 35 members this fall. The boys team returns six of their top seven runners, including state qualifier sophomore Sam Russ. The girls return a strong contingent, including top daler Emma Allen.

At the Speedway Strictly Streets points leader grabs fourth win of season

Newcastle 14-Year-Old Pulls with the Best of Them
Damon Crummett, 14, of North Newcastle, like many boys his age, loves the sound of a beefy engine roaring to life or rumbling down the track. What sets him apart from his peers is his deep-seated interest in figuring out how to make the engine in his tractor pull a weighted sled further down the track than his competitors.
Logan Wins Third Gold Medal
Eleanor Logan, 28, of Boothbay Harbor, has won her third straight Olympic gold medal in the women’s eight. She is the first female U.S. rower to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals.
Ward to Head Up LA Field Hockey
Lincoln Academy’s field hockey program will be headed up by Allison Ward this fall. Ward graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 2016 with a degree in mathematics. She will be teaching algebra I, algebra II, and geometry at Lincoln Academy this fall.
CLC YMCA Tennis Open and Auction
The Central Lincoln County YMCA will hold its 10th annual Sanford Open Tennis Tournament and Auction on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the home of Carl and Dru Sanford. Members of the community are welcome to attend the event, which includes a great day of tennis, followed by an evening which will inspire visions of a dream vacation to Tuscany. Tickets are $100 for the open and this includes one guest for the evening event. For those who just want to attend the evening festivities, tickets can be purchased for $50. Tickets are available at the YMCA front desk or online.
Bradford and O’Neill Win Westport Island Shore Run
Westport Island native Daniel Bradford ran to first place in the 12th annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K on Aug. 14. Bradford won in 40:53 to beat out second-place finisher Chase Hughes, also of Westport Island, by 3:34.
‘Just for Fun’ Olde Bristol Days 10K
The popular road race of Olde Bristol Days, the Alvin Sproul Samoset 10K, will go back to its roots this year as a “just for fun” race. It was announced at the 2014 race that someone had to step forward to take over the race. When no one did, the race was canceled for 2016.
