The Alvin Sproul Samoset 10K evolved from the Bristol 4-miler, which got its start in 1984. In its second year in 1985, Alvin Sproul won the race.

Midcoast Hall of Fame in Search of Sports Memorabilia
The Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame, located in Dow’s Discount warehouse on Route 1 in Waldoboro, opened recently. Now the organization is looking for historical sports memorabilia, uniforms and equipment to help fill their space, donated by Dana Dow.

Snell Hired as Medomak’s First Varsity Football Coach
Medomak Valley High School athletic director Matt Lash announced this week that Ryan Snell has been hired as Medomak Valley High School’s first varsity football coach. Snell is no stranger to the Medomak Youth Football program, having led the grade 9 to 12 team for the past three years.
Garbers ‘Own’ the Dirt Fast Track
The Garbers’ 1979 jet-black Jeep toes the line at the red light. The trans-brake is set and with a push of a button, the 700-horsepower engine rumbles to life. With a flip of a switch, nitrous oxide trickles into the carburetor to boost the motor’s output to over 1,000 horsepower. The gas pedal is pushed to the floor and the driver’s heart pumps in frantic anticipation. When the light flicks green, the trans-brake is snapped off and the Jeep roars down the dirt track, debris flying in its wake, covering the 300-foot track in just 3.68 seconds.
One pitch softball tournament
The Medomak Valley Boosters will be hosting their first annual one pitch softball tournament on Sat., Aug 8. There is a 10 team limit in the double elimination tournament. Waldoboro adult coed softball rules apply during the tournament.
Plourde Wins Two Golf tournaments, Qualifies for Nationals
Bailey Plourde won back-to-back golf tournaments on June 24 and 25. “It was my best two days of golf ever,” said Plourde, who just finished up her sophomore year at Lincoln Academy.

Medomak Valley 10&11 year old Little League baseball all-stars defeated Oceanside 11-1 in four innings Saturday night to win the District 2 championships.
Osier Memorial 5K Boosts Scholarship Fund
The first annual Dustin Osier Memorial 5K, held at Medomak Valley High School Saturday morning, was a great success, with 49 walkers and runners participating.
Midcoast 14’s Win Area 2 Babe Ruth Tournament, Head to States
Midcoast 14 Babe Ruth all-stars defeated Scarborough 13-2 in five innings on July 10 in Thomaston in their first game of the playoffs. Midcoast lost to Scarborough 12-6 in their second game of the playoffs. Scarborough’s win forced a second game for the Babe Ruth regional championship. Midcoast defeated Scarborough in the championship game 10-8 to advance to the state tournament.
Waldoboro Disc Golf Course Expands, Adds Features
The disc golf course at Cider Hill Farm in Waldoboro started off last year with just nine holes, but as of this past spring, the field and woodland course includes a full 18 holes and spans just under 4,900 feet.
Oliver and Plourde Take Fourth
Malcolm Oliver and Bailey Plourde tied for fourth in the Maine Golf Association’s mixed championships on July 12 at the Boothbay Region Country Club.
