A Jefferson woman who fraudulently received nearly $53,000 in government benefits over a nine-year period was sentenced Thursday, July 28 to six months in jail.
Kelly Mann, 42, was sentenced in Knox County Unified Court to four years in jail with all but six months suspended for theft by deception. She was given concurrent sentences for two counts of unsworn falsification for lying on state applications for aid.
Mann will be on probation for three years upon her release from jail.
According to court documents, Mann received food stamps and MaineCare coverage from August 2007 until July 2015. During that period, she failed to report to the state that her husband was living in the household and contributing income.
The case was handled in the Knox County court because the regional Maine Department of Health and Human Services office, where Mann filled out the paperwork, is in Rockland.
Mann was ordered to pay restitution to the state of $52,909.
