The Maine court system’s new case management and e-filing system, Odyssey, is now available for traffic violation cases. Parties may look up their cases online, file answers and motions, and pay tickets 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Structured interview questions referred to as “Guide and File” allow parties to request trials and file motions. After a series of questions is answered, the necessary documents will be created and filed electronically. Parties are also able to upload insurance certificates and other documentation if such proof is needed in a case.
An online service to pay traffic fines using a debit or credit card is available. A small convenience fee will be assessed. Telephone payments will not be accepted initially but will be available at a later date.
Parties may still file answers, motions, and documents by mail and in person at the Lewiston District Court between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. In February 2019, traffic tickets may be paid at any courthouse in the state. Starting in February, court documents relating to traffic violations will be accepted at all courthouses but will be processed centrally at the Maine Judicial Branch Violations Bureau.
