U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced that Michael L. Brewer, 62, of Union, pleaded guilty Thursday, Oct. 19 in U.S. District Court to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to court records, on May 13, Brewer led the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed chase in Boothbay after a deputy attempted to execute a traffic stop of the truck Brewer was driving. The chase ended when Brewer crashed and rolled his truck.
When removing Brewer from the truck, officers located a .22 caliber pistol resting beside Brewer. Brewer was prohibited from possessing firearms based on prior felony convictions for criminal operating under the influence in 2006, burglary in 2015, and attempted murder in 1989.
Brewer faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The case was investigated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Boothbay Harbor Police Department, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
