Applications for 2011 any-deer (antlerless) permit lottery are now available online from the Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
A total of 26,390 any-deer permits will be issued in 11 of the state’s 29 wildlife management districts for this year’s whitetail deer hunting season, which begins in late October. It is bucks-only in all other wildlife management districts.
Online applications are due by midnight Aug. 15. Paper applications may be submitted in person or by mail no later than July 29. To apply online, visit www.mefishwildlife.com. The department no longer mails paper applications.
It is free to apply for the any-deer permit lottery with the drawing in September.
The permit allocation is: 18,378 for residents; 6599 for landowners; 1181 for non-residents; and 232 for Superpack holders. (Superpack and landowners must meet certain requirements. See the department’s website for more information.)
The 11 wildlife management districts where any-deer (antlerless) deer may be hunted this year, with a permit, are 13, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 29.
Deer hunting season (firearms) begins with Youth Deer Hunting Day on Oct. 22. Youth may take a buck statewide or an antlerless deer only in the wildlife management districts where any-deer permits will be issued this fall.
This year, Maine Residents Only Day is Sat., Oct. 29, and deer season runs Oct. 31-Nov. 26.
