Patrons at Hunters Breakfast and Lunch on Gardiner Road in Wiscasset had a quite a shock April 15 when Vera Cleaves, 97, of Westport Island crashed into the front entrance.
The collision jolted employees and customers from a leisurely lunch and ripped “everything” off the wall said restaurant owner Lanee Barnes.
“It was a huge boom,” said Barnes who had coincidentally stopped in to go over paperwork. “Luckily no-one was hurt,” she said.
According to attending Wiscasset Police Officer Jason Warlick, the cause was driver inattention.
The crash resulted in a gaping hole where the front door once was. Not to be deterred, the driver still was able to have lunch, a little embarrassed she said but happy everyone was safe. Barnes estimates the damage could run as high as $15,000.
