A Florida man escaped serious injury when his Jeep hit a utility pole on Route 27 in Edgecomb, briefly knocking out power just after 2 p.m. Oct. 31.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Gilbert, Eugene Damon, 84 of Fort Lauderdale, Florida was driving north on Route 27 in the area of On Board Fabrics in Edgecomb when he drifted off the road and struck the utility pole.
“Its the only straight stretch of road among all the curves (on Route 27),” said resident Richard Davison, who lives near the crash site. Davison said he heard a loud crash then lost his power and came out to see what happened.
Edgecomb Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Wiscasset Ambulance and Central Maine Power responded to the scene.
Although Wiscasset Ambulance was paged to the scene, Damon was not transported to any hospital.
