A two-car accident in front of Mike’s Place in Newcastle slowed traffic on Route 1 the afternoon of Tuesday, July 5.
The driver of a Toyota RAV4 was stopped in the northbound lane to turn left into Mike’s Place at 557 Route 1, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jason Nein said. The driver of a second vehicle in the northbound lane, a Buick LeSabre, steered right to avoid striking the stopped vehicle.
The driver’s side of the Buick struck the rear passenger side of the Toyota, rotating the Toyota, Nein said. The Buick went over the northbound embankment and came to a stop after hitting a tree.
The Newcastle Fire Department provided traffic control. Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
