Three recent fundraisers and one upcoming benefit for LCAS animals are mentioned in this week’s column. Without the generous folks who plan special events for the shelter, we would not be as able to take care of the many animals that pass through our doors. We would not be able to continue to meet the maintenance requirements needed to keep the shelter up and running to our own code of perfection. Many funds for repairs and upkeep of grounds are required each month.
Earlier this year the Wiscasset Primary School raised $420 through a penny and quarter drive at the school. The school also collected food and supplies for the shelter. The event was called “Hearts of Love.” The students drew pictures that were hung around the school and sang songs they wrote to honor the animals at LCAS.
At the Jefferson Village School in April, 10-year-old Halie Winchenbach initiated an event she called Furry Fundraiser, hoping to raise $500 for LCAS. She and her classmates raised $854. Our children, as we know, are our future. Thank you, Halie, and all the children who love animals, and feel it important to help those creatures, less fortunate than our own pets, that are treasured members of our families.
Now, to a special adult fundraiser for LCAS at the Damariscotta Lake Farm in mid- April! This event was organized by Toni and Jerry Brann. What a gala! Dancing to the Derek Bernie Band kept folks on their feet until the wee hours. The food was delicious. A gathering of the Branns’ friends filled the restaurant. The event raised $1,400 and brought much attention to the needs of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
Kieve-Wavus Education Inc. will host a brunch in honor of Carol Impallomeni to raise funds for the Lincoln County Animal Shelter from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, May 18. The event will take place at the Kennedy Center in Nobleboro. The brunch will cost $10. All the brunch monies will go to the shelter and other donations will be greatly appreciated.
