There were many visitors signing in and signing out to look at the animals, take dogs for walks, help socialize kittens and cats, or take one to a forever home.
I was told that each day at least two or three folks bring in much-needed gifts for the animals. Toys, food, bedding, litter, and most important, some groups bring their gifts of love.
Mobius Inc. visits the shelter twice a week. The groups of these loving adults and young people visit with a Mobius staff member.
The joy they bring through the shelter doors should be saved and collected to scatter about. It is joy enough to fill the hearts of all animal lovers, and the hearts of those folks who know how important LCAS is to the Lincoln County communities.
On Monday afternoon, these groups checked on every kitten and cat. They visited the dogs, fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other creatures present.
Also on Monday afternoon I met a family that brought in a lot of bedding for the animals. Zach, Kylie, and their mother, Beth Johnson, were loaded down. Not only do the gifts mean much to the shelter animals, but these children are learning an important lesson about giving to help those less fortunate.
That afternoon, LCAS staffer Melinda Reed showed me valued gifts for kitties that are not weaned. These kitties were brought homeless to the shelter – often found in deserted barns or in or around dumpsters. For a while they have to be bottle-fed day and night by a staff member. The formula that is used is very costly. On our LCAS Facebook page, a note was pasted that said the shelter needed cans of KMY kitten milk replacer and kitten milk replacer premix.
A day later, seven cans of powdered precious milk replacer and seven cans of KMY premix arrived at the shelter. Seven baby bottles came with the cans. This gift will take care of nine kittens until they are weaned and there may be enough for a mother with kittens that does not have enough milk to feed all of her babies.
Not only does our shelter take care of all the creatures in its care, but for the visitors, happy endorphins are released that make for very happy folks.
