Four bidders will buy five properties from the town of Alna for $19,153.
Alna acquired the properties after the previous owners did not pay taxes or contact the town to make payment arrangements for three consecutive years.
The assessed value of the properties, all landlocked, undeveloped parcels, totals $58,018.
M. Jewett and Sons, of Whitefield, submitted the two highest bids, winning a 56-acre property on the Alna-Dresden town line and a 28-acre property on the Alna-Wiscasset town line for a total of $15,400.
Larry Rines, of Wiscasset, won six acres on the Alna-Wiscasset line for $2000.
Frank Boudin, of Wiscasset, submitted the high bid of $1626 for a 9.5-acre property on the same boundary.
Fred and Mary Bowers arguably left the Aug. 9 Alna Board of Selectmen meeting with the best deal, winning a 14-acre property between Rt. 218 and West Alna Road for the sum of $127.
In other municipal business, the selectmen decided to ask the town of Wiscasset for more information before they sign the 2012-2013 transfer station contract.
The selectmen want the contract to state that Wiscasset will not institute any new “fees, penalties or protocols” for the duration of the contract.
The selectmen also want to know whether the station has saved money since Wiscasset voters approved mandatory recycling last year.
The transfer station charges a $2 fine per bag to users who don’t separate recyclable items.
