Alna Animal Control Officer Marla Blagdon has submitted her resignation, effective Jan. 17, and a search is in progress for someone to fill the position.
The job pays $12 per hour with a cap of $1500 per year and an allowance for mileage. A candidate without prior experience would have to complete training, which the town would pay for.
Alna Second Selectman Jonathan Villeneuve said the board of selectmen is waiting for a recommendation from the Committee for Alna History.
The committee has enough money in its budget to pay for temporary repairs, but if the roof needs to be replaced immediately, a special town meeting might be necessary in order to access surplus funds.
Otherwise, if temporary repairs will suffice, the town could raise money to replace the roof at the annual town meeting in March. The committee is also planning fundraisers, chairwoman Amy Warner said.
The selectmen, Warner and a few residents discussed options for the roof at the Jan. 3 meeting of the selectmen.
The options include asphalt or wood shingles or a steel roof. Warner said she would like to see historically accurate wood shingles, but asphalt shingles or metal would be less expensive and more durable.
The meetinghouse’s existing wood shingles are approximately 18-20 years old, she said.
The town will pay $7000 for the audit.
Candidates must collect at least 25 signatures of registered Alna voters and return their papers to the town office by Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. in order to appear on the ballot for the March 15 election.
The next meeting of the Alna Board of Selectmen is scheduled for Thurs., Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
