An Alna representative to the Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit board of directors resigned May 16 and a former RSU 12 representative will succeed him.
The Alna Board of Selectmen accepted the resignation of William Stafford May 16 and appointed former board member Ralph Hilton to complete his term.
“I just don’t feel like I’ve been as effective as I was in the past and would like to be,” Stafford said. He cannot devote as much time as he did previously due to family responsibilities, he said.
“I’m still available for consultation,” Stafford said.
Hilton, meanwhile, is ready to return after a brief hiatus.
“The reason I didn’t run last time was I had some health issues,” Hilton said. “I go to every single school board meeting. I’m also on the facilities committee.”
The board thanked Stafford for his years of service. Second Selectman Jonathan Villeneuve said both Stafford and Hilton have been effective advocates for the town.
