The Alna Board of Selectmen will hold a workshop Wed., Feb. 8 to tackle numerous redundancies in the town’s financial accounts. Selectmen David Reingardt said there were 415 different accounts, more than the number of households in the town.
“There’s redundancy in there that goes on and on,” Reingardt said. “There’s stuff that doesn’t even pertain to the town anymore.
Reingardt pointed out two separate balances for road signs, separate ledgers for town employees, and accounts for positions that no longer exist as examples of where the selectmen need to trim.
“All I know is that 415 accounts for this little town, for this little budget, is crazy,” Reingardt said.
Reingardt suggested putting all employee salaries into one account rather than having them listed separately.
Town Resident Chris Cooper urged the Board to trim, but not cut too much so citizens could still see specifically where money was being allocated.
The Board will work in conjunction with Treasurer Honora Jordan to make the changes. The workshop will be held at the Town Office from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
According to Chris Cooper, who is helping put together the report, everything must be typed and sent in a word document to Town Clerk Amy Warner.
