Alna officials set the town’s 2012-2013 mil rate at $21.80 Wednesday, an increase of $1.50 more than the mil rate for the previous fiscal year.
The mil rate determines the amount of property tax per $1000 of valuation. For example, the owner of a property with a town-assessed value of $100,000 will receive a bill for $2180, an increase of $150 more than the previous year.
Town officials use a formula that takes into account the county tax, the education and municipal budgets and various sources of non-property tax revenue to calculate the mil rate.
The county tax is $588.05 more than last year, the education budget $14,150.41 less and the municipal budget $34,613.75 more.
Non-property tax revenue, including state municipal revenue sharing and other revenues, is down $104,784.29.
Alna Town Clerk Amy Warner said she has mailed tax bills.
The Alna Board of Selectmen will discuss the tax commitment at its regular meeting this evening. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at the town office.
The board will also discuss a quote for the replacement of a window in the town office and the pending renewal of its contract with Wiscasset for use of that town’s transfer station.
