Cead Mile Failte is a well-known expression of Irish hospitality meaning “A Hundred Thousand Welcomes” and that is just what is felt when walking through the doors of the new Annie O’Rourkes Irish Restaurant and Pub in Waldoboro.
Proprietor Jane Harriman, along with her husband Jim, spent the spring putting lots of TLC into the building that formerly housed Ocean’s Bounty and succeeded in creating a warm, comfortable atmosphere for diners.
Harriman invites you to come enjoy her take on the traditional Irish pub dining experience whether looking for a casual meal, a night out with the entire family or a quiet spot to enjoy for a pint with friends.
Harriman, former owner of Sullie’s Pub & Grille in Waterboro, is renowned for remembering names and faces.
“I learned early on that paying special attention to the people who frequent my establishment is one of the keys to success. I take pride in knowing who’s been here and what their experience was like,” Harriman said.
The old adage “enter once as a stranger, leave as a friend” rings true at Annie O’Rourkes.
Specializing in authentic Irish fare along with some old favorites with a new twist, Annie’s menu features something for everyone. Many recipes are tried and true winners including appetizers Spicy Mussels, Lamb Stuffed Mushrooms and Harriman’s own Irish Nachos, a fan favorite.
Traditional favorites include Shepherd’s Pie, Corned Beef Rachel and Lamb Burger, which is ground lamb marinated in lemon, garlic and spearmint charbroiled to order.
Guests can enjoy sandwiches, fried seafood and delicious salads including the Kevin Barry Salad, a mixed green leaf salad topped with a ground beef patty, bacon, jalapeños and Irish cheddar cheese.
Annie’s is also family friendly and welcoming to children with their own menu choices.
Harriman plans to add in her finer dining menu. “Our menu right now is offering more casual choices but we do have plans to bump it up as we grow into our space. We will feature some incredible entrees such as Beef O’Wellington, Coquille St. Patrick and Chicken Donegal. These will be our Friday and Saturday night offerings in addition to our pub and lunch menu,” said Harriman.
“Also, we’ll be taking advantage of our large outdoor patio area with some great entertainment and dining options for all ages.”
Located right on Rt. 1 at 816 Atlantic Highway at the top of the hill, Annie’s is easy to find. It is open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sun.-Thurs., and 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday for lunch and dinner.
