An anonymous donor wants to give the town of Bristol $220,000 to purchase a property at 468 Pemaquid Harbor Rd. with frontage on John’s Bay.
Bristol residents will decide whether to authorize the Bristol Board of Selectmen to accept the gift at a special town meeting Wednesday, July 31 at 7 p.m.
The donor “saw that the property was on the market and offered to give us the money to purchase it,” said Bristol Town Administrator Kristine Poland. Steven Ellis owns the property, which the town values at $265,200.
The small property would be open to the public as a picnic area and a place to enjoy a scenic view, Poland said.
A small cottage stands on the property. “It would probably be demolished,” Poland said. “It’s not in very good shape.”
The majority of the $220,000 will go to the purchase, while a small fraction will cover related expenses, Poland said.
The special town meeting includes three other questions. The voters will decide whether to donate up to $2000 to disaster relief in Lac-Megantic, Quebec; whether to authorize the selectmen to enter into boundary agreements, and whether to authorize the selectmen to enter into an agreement to allow the owners of a Riverview Road property to install a septic system under the road.
