The Central Lincoln County School System has hired Susan “Sue” Fossett as its new director of special services, according to Superintendent Steve Bailey.
Deryl Holt, the current director of special services and assistant superintendent, will retire effective Sept. 30. Holt’s retirement plans were announced during the April meeting of the AOS 93 board.
Fossett will only be director of special services and not assistant superintendent, Bailey said.
Fossett currently works as the assistant special education director for RSU 13, which includes Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, and Thomaston. Her previous experience includes working at the Maine Department of Education as the state assessment coordinator and as the alternate assessment and accommodations coordinator.
“(Fossett) comes with a terrific knowledge of special education procedures and planning strategies to create effective education plans for students,” Bailey said. “She is also very organized in the area that demands knowledge of systems, timelines, and reports.”
Fossett said she is looking forward to the new opportunities with AOS 93 as the director of special services.
“Even when I walked into the interview, I knew I was in the right place,” Fossett said. “Everyone has been so warm and welcoming and I just can’t wait to get started.”
Fossett and Holt will work together for a few months prior to the start of the school year in an effort to ease the transition.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the students and getting to know the teachers, the staff, and the families in the district,” Fossett said. “If anyone has any concerns, I am more than willing to sit down and talk with them. I’m a very approachable person.”
Fossett lives in Augusta with her husband, Danny, and their son, Ryan.
