Dr. Keith Laser, of Bath, was elected superintendent of AOS 98, the Rocky Channels School System, at the AOS 98 Board meeting Monday, May 7.
Laser is the superintendent of Regional School Unit 67 in the Penobscot County town of Lincoln. He has been in that position for the past four years.
His previous positions include superintendent in Calais, assistant superintendent of the Auburn School Department, principal of elementary schools in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and eight years as high school principal in Reading, Penn.
Laser, originally from Reading, is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He retired from the Navy after a distinguished career as a naval aviator. He flew over 3,000 hours and was the commanding officer of a helicopter squadron. Additionally, he served as the navigator on two nuclear aircraft carriers.
In addition to his degree from the Naval Academy, Laser has master’s degrees from the Naval War College, Salve Regina University, and Loyola University Maryland. He earned a Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University.
The Rocky Channels School System consists of the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, Georgetown, and Southport.
The Boothbay Harbor-based district has had an interim superintendent, Robert Webster, since the departure of former Superintendent Eileen King at the end of 2017. Laser will take over July 1.
