Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland has announced an arrest has been made following an investigation into a reported arson case in Waldoboro.
Eric J. Buckley, 34, of Waldoboro was arrested just after noon Friday upon his release from the VA Hospital in Togus, McCausland said. Buckley was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and will likely make his first court appearance early next week.
The charge stems from an intentionally set fire at 50 Union Rd. in Waldoboro on Nov. 14 that destroyed a mobile home.
Buckley was living at the mobile home, which he shared with a woman and her 13-year-old son. The mother and son were not at home at the time of the fire, McCausland said.
Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde previously told LCN the building was home to Elizabeth Cunningham and her son and identified Buckley as a roommate.
According to McCausland, Maine Fire Marshal Sgt. Ken Grimes alleges Buckley set fire to items in a bathtub and the fire then quickly spread, destroying the mobile home. During the fire, a Warren firefighter was hospitalized for treatment of heat exhaustion and later released.
A 14-year-old neighbor, Jacob Soule, noticed the fire and helped Buckley escape out a bedroom window. Soule then called 911 to report the fire and unleashed the family dog from the outside of the mobile home, McCausland said.
