The Lincoln County Sheriffs Office has received a $5000 Highway Safety Grant for enforcement of drunk driving laws during the holiday season.
Speaking at a Lincoln County Commissioner meeting Dec.7, Sheriff Todd Brackett said the money would be used for potential roadblocks and general enforcement of Maine’s drunk driving laws, considered to be the among the toughest in the nation. The holiday season traditionally sees an increase in gatherings and alcohol consumption.
Lieutenant John Allen of the Wiscasset Police Dept. echoed Brackett’s sentiment.
“The bottom line is don’t drink and drive,” Allen said. “If you’d had too much, find another way to get home. We will be out there and vigilant.”
