A Massachusetts man was seriously injured after riding a four-wheel all terrain vehicle off a private road in Dresden and crashing into a tree on Aug. 18 at around 7 p.m.
Michael Murphy, 42, of Mashpee, Mass. was critically injured after the accident, which occurred on Hunter Road, a private road off Rt. 197. Murphy was not wearing a helmet, according to a press release issued by the Maine Warden’s Service.
Murphy was flown by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was admitted in critical condition, according to the press release.
At press time this week, a CMMC spokesperson confirmed Murphy had been released from the Lewiston facility but did not specify whether he was transferred to another hospital or simply released.
As of the end of last week, “his injuries did not appear to be life threatening,” said Game Warden Doug Kulis. Murphy suffered head injuries, broken ribs and a punctured lung in the crash, Kulis said.
The incident is currently under investigation, Kulis said.
Kulis responded to the scene. Game Wardens Josh Smith and Sgt. Hughes responded to the hospital.
