After more than 12 years, Bad Hair Days salon in Waldoboro will close its doors Tuesday, March 31.
“It’s time for a new adventure,” salon owner Kathy Hammer said.
Hammer is a lifelong resident of Waldoboro. She graduated from Medomak Valley High School in 1991 and Central Beauty School in Augusta in 1992.
Hammer will continue to work at the Rockland salon Green with Envy. “The Rockland salon is a typical salon, with tanning, waxing, manicures, pedicures, cuts, and colors,” she said.
According to Hammer, Green With Envy has six stylists.
“The manager of Green With Envy started working here with me when she graduated, and now I’m working there with her,” Hammer said.
The two other hair stylists at Bad Hair Days rent booths in the facility, according to Hammer. Brenda Olsen plans to go into the medical field, leaving the hair profession. Patricia Ripley will work at Hair Frolics in Edgecomb.
“Both stylists have something to go to after we close,” Hammer said.
Hammer and the other stylists began letting their customers know about the closure in December.
“The customers have said that most of them will follow me to Rockland,” Hammer said. “They can combine shopping trips.”
Hammer wants to thank the customers for their loyalty, and for sticking with the stylists from the beginning.
“I’ve had clients starting from elementary school, and now I’m cutting their kids’ hair,” Hammer said. “That’s the most rewarding part of the job.”
According to Hammer, Bad Hair Days gift certificates can be used until March 31.
