The Bank of Maine will close its Newcastle banking center in January.
“The closing and combining of the Newcastle banking center with the Boothbay Harbor banking center will result in stronger customer service through increased staffing and greater efficiencies,” according to an Oct. 15 letter from bank executives to customers.
The 67 Main St. branch will close at 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 17. The branch opened Sept. 10, 2001, according to The Bank of Maine website.
The letter from Vice President and Banking Center Manager Donna Gregory and Executive Vice President of Community Banking Anita Nored invites customers to bank at the Boothbay Harbor and Wiscasset centers and take advantage of mobile and online services.
The staff of the Newcastle banking center will all have “future positions with the bank,” some with a nearby banking center, The Bank of Maine Chairman and CEO John Everets said.
As for the future of the property, “We have not made a final decision yet, but I believe we will consider selling the building,” Everets said.
