A black bear with cubs have been sighted in Wiscasset within the last week, according to Wiscasset Police Sgt. Kathy Williams.
Williams, who also serves as the town’s assistant animal control officer, said a single black bear was reported near a dumpster on Lowelltown Road and other sightings placed a bear with cubs on the same road and on Willow Lane.
The Maine Warden Service has been made aware that bears are in the area, but people should just leave any bears they see alone, Williams said.
Unless a bear is seen doing something out of the ordinary or something dangerous, there is no need to report further sightings, she said.
