A two car collision on Rt. 1 in Waldoboro June 16 claimed the life of an 81-year-old Belfast woman and sent four survivors to local hospitals.
According to the Waldoboro Police Dept., Florence Bryant succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash, which occurred near the Ripley Transport and Country Kitchen businesses around 2:30 p.m.
According to police, a southbound, 2004 Chevy 1500 pickup truck, operated by Andrew Chapman, 35, of Waldoboro, collided with the rear-end of a 2005 Buick Century four-door sedan, operated by Richard Bryant, 75, Belfast, which had slowed to make a left hand turn.
Bryant’s wife, Florence Bryant, was a passenger in the Buick.
Richard Bryant was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital by Waldoboro EMS and subsequently transported by Life Flight to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Andrew Chapman and his wife and child were transported to Penn Bay Hospital by Waldoboro EMS.
Waldoboro Police, Fire and EMS and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Gilbert, an accident reconstruction specialist, also responded to the scene.
Route 1 was closed for approximately three hours while Deputy Gilbert reconstructed the crash. This accident remains under investigation.
