The Wiscasset Ambulance Attendants Association is hosting “Fight For Tanya 2012,” a benefit supper for Tanya Bailey on Sat., Nov. 17.
Bailey, who has been an Emergency Medical Technician for Wiscasset for two years, is suffering from kidney cancer, according Roland Abbott, director of the Wiscasset Ambulance Service.
“She currently has no medical insurance, and she’s trying to pay for all of her treatments and stuff out of pocket,” Abbott said.
Bailey is “a life-long resident of Wiscasset and somebody who’s dedicated to her family and her community,” said Sue Anderson, a fellow member of the ambulance service. “She’s awesome to work with. Good spirited.”
Abbott described Bailey as a “strong woman.” Bailey has only “taken a couple of days off when she didn’t feel good, other than that she’s been plugging away,” he said.
The supper will be by donation only. It will take place at the Wiscasset Fire Station between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.
The entrees available will be baked beans, ham and chop suey, Anderson said. People will also be providing side dishes and desserts.
“If anyone wants to donate food items, that’s awesome,” Anderson said. People will be at the station around 11 a.m. on Saturday to receive donated dishes, she said.
“There’s going to be a silent auction,” Anderson said. There will be local pottery and gift cards to local businesses to bid on, among other things. “I can’t even think, there’s so many items,” she said.
Those who can’t attend the supper but wish to make a monetary donation can do so by donating to the Tanya Bailey Benefit Fund at the Wiscasset branch of The First, Anderson said.
