Colleen Bennett has reconsidered her plans to seek re-election to the Wiscasset School Board and will end her term on June 30.
On April 8, Wiscasset Town Clerk Christine Wolfe said Bennett had taken out nominations papers for a new three-year term.
In an email April 14, Bennett writes, “Due to added responsibilities at work and family obligations, I decided not to commit to three more years as a school board member.”
In January, Bennett said she decided to run for school board to offer a new perspective to the board. She said she was concerned with Wiscasset’s vote to withdraw from RSU 12 and wanted to be involved in the decisions as Wiscasset moved to create a new system.
Bennett, the mother of a Wiscasset Primary School third-grader, works as the office manager at Wiscasset Ford where she has been employed for 20 years.
With the resignation of Sharon Nichols and Bennett’s term ending, the board has two openings needing to be filled on the Wiscasset School Board.
Wiscasset’s Michael Dunn has taken out nomination papers for the vacancy left with the resignation of Nichols.
Nomination papers for both terms are available at the Wiscasset Town Office. Candidates must collect 25 to 100 signatures from registered Wiscasset voters. Nomination papers must be returned to the town office by 4 p.m. on April 25.
