Divers with the Maine Warden Service this afternoon recovered the body of a Waldoboro snowmobiler from Damariscotta Lake who was reported missing this morning.
Timothy York, 45 of Waldoboro, was last seen riding his snowmobile at about 9:30 last night. According to Sgt. Mark Warren of the Maine Warden Service, they found York, a member of the Waldoboro Snowcrawlers Club, near the location of his snowmobile submerged in roughly 13-ft. of water.
He had been traveling in a location known by locals as “the narrows” on the Nobleboro/Newcastle end of Damariscotta Lake.
The Warden Service, along with the support of local fire departments and Lincoln County EMA, started the search after a 9 a.m. call today.
A pilot initially sent out, spotted the area where they believed York to have gone through the ice with his sled. Teams sent to the location this afternoon found the submerged snowmobile first and then shortly after, found York nearby.
According to a recent press release, York was sent to Halls Funeral Home in Waldoboro. His family has been notified.
Jefferson, Newcastle and Nobleboro fire departments, the Waldoboro Police Dept., Lincoln County EMA and Ambulance service assisted in the search.
