The State Fire Marshal’s Office has confirmed a body was recovered at the scene of an early morning structure fire on Turner Road in Bremen Saturday.
According to a statement issued by Maine Dept. of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, firefighters were notified of the fire shortly before 3 a.m. and found the fire had flattened the small house, located at 435 Turner Road, when they arrived on the scene.
The body was found in the rubble of the house and was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for autopsy and identification, McCausland said.
McCausland identified the owner of the home as 56 year old Steven Sidelinger, adding Sidelinger lives alone and has not been located. Fire investigators suspect the body may be his, McCausland said.
McCausland described the house as a one time seasonal camp, built of posts, that had been converted into a year round residence.
Three Fire Marshal Investigators responded to the scene McCausland said.
Bremen Fire Chief Fern Poland said the extent of the destruction would likely make it hard to determine a specific cause of the fire.
“The house was pretty much destroyed,” Poland said.
Firefighters were able to clear the scene around 10 a.m., Poland said
Bremen was supported by mutual aid units from Bristol, Damariscotta, and Newcastle, Poland said.
