Bonnie Stone has recently joined Drum & Drum Real Estate, a leader in Midcoast Maine realty since its inception in 1990.
Before pursuing a career in real estate, Stone volunteered on the Newcastle Design Review Committee for seven years applying her knowledge of land use ordinances as it pertained to the historic districts of Sheepscot, Damariscotta Mills, and the Old Village of Newcastle. As Development Officer at the Boothbay Harbor Opera House, Stone worked diligently with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission to obtain designation for the Opera House on the National Register of Historic Preservation; which ultimately lead to an award for a Community Development Block Grant.
In an effort to gain a more comprehensive knowledge of residential loan processing and appraisal review, Stone worked for a local lending institution in loan operations. Sales and marketing strengths and a passion for worthwhile causes led to board positions along the way, most recently Mid Coast Youth Hockey, Rising Tide Natural Food Cooperative, and Coastal Studies for Girls.
Stone holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Clemson University. While in college, she studied at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga. through a cooperative education internship. With a growing interest in winemaking, Stone left the CDC to become a wine chemist for a small winery in South Carolina; setting the stage for a lengthy career in the wine and spirits industry in New York City.
After numerous visits to coastal Maine to attend her husband’s Bowdoin College reunions and homecoming weekends, Bonnie and Gary moved their family to Newcastle. Raising their two sons along the banks of the Damariscotta River includes many recreational activities; the most notable are kayaking, fishing, and swimming. While living in the Hudson Valley of New York State, Bonnie and Gary Stone completed the restoration of a 1794 Federal style stone house; presently they are working on the family home, an 1860s Greek Revival sea captain’s house, on Glidden Street.
