Boothbay Harbor citizens held their annual town meeting, May 5. A secret ballot election held the previous day, passed three warrant articles and filled six positions, including those of selectman and overseer of the poor, school committee superintendent, and trustees for the Rocky Channels School System and cemetery, sewer and water districts.
At the May 5 meeting, voters approved an ordinance regulating secondhand dealers, junk collectors and pawnbroker licensing.
Citizens also voted to prohibit the sale and use of consumer fireworks. Permitted displays, as well as small sparklers and signal cannons used by boating organizations are exempt from the ordinances, as long as they follow state law.
Town Clerk Michelle Farnham said May 8, that no candidates had submitted nomination papers for the selectman position.
Robert Splaine was elected with 92 write-in votes.
In uncontested elections, Stephanie Hawke was elected to serve as school committee superintendent, William Spencer gained election as trustee for the Rocky Channels School System, John Arsenault was elected as cemetery trustee and James Stormont was elected as sewer trustee.
In the only contested race, Kenneth Marston defeated Adam Macy for the position of at-large water district trustee, by a vote of 162-60.
Also in the May 4 balloting, voters agreed to an appropriation of up to $45,000 for the construction of ADA-compliant public restrooms, at or near the town-owned footbridge parking lot. Also approved was appropriating up to $224,000 of the existing Fish Pier Enterprise Account towards renovations of the town-owned fish pier property and $250,000 from the general fund toward renovations of that property.
