A Boothbay man faces 12 felony and nine misdemeanor charges of distributing and possessing child pornography last September and October.
Philip Gregory, 50, faces one count each of Class B and C dissemination of sexually explicit material and 10 counts of Class C possession of sexually explicit materials. Class B and C crimes are felonies.
Gregory also faces nine counts of Class D possession of sexually explicit materials, a misdemeanor.
Special Agent Justin Kittredge, of the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, was the investigating officer.
Kittredge said he had contact with Gregory Oct. 10, 2013. The contact “led to the seizure of evidence and subsequent discovery of tens of thousands of files of a child pornographic nature,” Kittredge said May 2.
The difference between the felony and misdemeanor possession charges is the age of the children who appear in the materials. The felony charges refer to children under the age of 12; the misdemeanor charges to children under the age of 16.
The Class B dissemination charge refers to a child under the age of 12; the Class C charge to a minor.
A Lincoln County grand jury indicted Gregory on the charges March 11. Gregory pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, Thursday, May 1.
Gregory has posted $500 cash bail. His bail conditions prohibit the possession or use of computers or other devices capable of Internet access, and allow random searches to ensure compliance. The conditions also prohibit contact with children under 16.
Class B, C, and D crimes have maximum penalties of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine, five years in prison and a $5,000 fine, and 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine, respectively.
