Alan Burgess, the former Boothbay elementary school teacher, pleaded guilty July 15 to possession of sexually explicit material of a minor under 12 years old.
Burgess’ sentencing has been continued for 12 months – until July 2011 – Burgess is prohibited from all contact with persons under 16 years old, except “incidental and unavoidable” contact and supervised visits with family members, according to court documents.
Burgess is also prohibited from using the Internet, using or possessing drugs or alcohol, and he must attend substance abuse treatment and sex offender treatment, according to court documents.
Burgess was arrested in Sept. 2009, and charged with 10 counts of possessing sexually explicit child pornography on his home computer.
Prior to his arrest, he had been teaching in the Boothbay region school system since 1973. No improper materials were found on school computers, school officials said at the time of his initial court appearances in Nov. 2009.
