Through the years St. Andrews Church in Newcastle has supported a variety of relief efforts in Haiti. Following a massive earthquake on Tues., many parishioners are wondering if the efforts in Haiti supported by the church are still standing, and if the people associated with them are safe.
At least one major facility supported in part by St. Andrews Church, the Episcopalian Holy Trinity Cathedral has been completely destroyed, according to Bishop Stephen Lane who quotes an e-mail from the Rev. Kesner Ajax in Haiti. The information was confirmed by broadcast reports from the area.
Volunteers from St. Andrews Church have traveled to Haiti in the past to lend a hand with church efforts, but fortunately no parishioners are the country at this time, according to St. Andrews Church Rev. Frank Strasbuger.
