A kelp business in Waldoboro caught fire at around 7 p.m. Aug. 18.
The fire started in the chimney of the North American Kelp plant at 42 Cross St., near the intersection with Rt. 32, and spread into the ceiling, said Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer.
No one was injured.
The fire was under control in 21 minutes, and fire fighters cleared the scene at 8:30 p.m., Smeltzer said. He described the damage to the building as “moderate.”
Fire crews from Waldoboro, Nobleboro, Jefferson, and Warren all responded to the scene.
“It wasn’t too bad because of the fantastic work of the crews at the scene,” Smeltzer said. “They did a tremendous job – response was fast and the fire attack operations went smoothly.”
The fire is not under investigation.
