The Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency (LCEMA) has sent out an urgent request for residents to stay off of local roads unless it is absolutely necessary they travel. Not only is it safer for motorists to stay home, but clear roads make it easier for emergency personnel to travel and snowplows to keep up with the snowfall.
“We are seeing a lot of car accidents” due to the weather conditions, said LCEMA Deputy Director Kimberly White-Kaiser. “Residents are urged top stay off the roads today as the driving will be traitorous at best in the heavy blowing winds.”
White-Kaiser urged anyone who does venture out on the roads to bring an emergency kit minimally equipped with water, flashlight and blanket. Drivers should also ensure they have plenty of fuel in their gas tank, and that their cell phone is fully charged, if they have one.
The timing for the snowfall to decrease and move out is still variable. The Lincoln County News website will be posting a storm update at approximately 1 p.m. today.
